Guide to TSA Approved Travel Locks

By Nicholas Skeba

Before stowing your bags under the plane your bags will need to be checked by TSA. Usually they will screen your bag with an x-ray, but sometimes the TSA agents will actually need to open your bag to inspect to inside. This is where TSA Approved Locks are helpful. They allow agents to open the lock with their special keys and relock it, so it is safely secure for the rest of the journey.

TSA's job is to screen each passenger's baggage before they allow it to be placed on the plane. TSA worked with several companies to develop a universal standard of locks so that master keys could open the locks and allow passengers to also lock their bags without interfering in TSA's operations.

TSA Locks have either the Travel Sentry or Safe Skies mark. These certify that the lock is guaranteed to be a TSA lock.

FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so very much. Reading the instructions provided with the lock didn't get me anywhere. I have successfully changed the combination on my locks due to your instruction video.

Thank you again.

How do I set the TSA lock that is built in on a Samsonite suitcase that I just bought? It is now set at 0-0-0, but I can't see how to reset it to my preferred combination.

Bought a lock, matched it to my luggage, worried about the code, set said code, placed on luggage, locked, blocked code, delivered it to luggage area with a feeling of security~ Got to final destination only to have no lock. It had the TSA emblem on it, just needed a simple key or code, no hassle, right? Well, not when you're busy, I guess. Trying to retrieve my lock now... or reimbursement.

Mine is from plastic, the instructions are different from the film and neither the procedure shown in the film, nor that one on the manual that comes with the lock do work

It was delivered with a SAMSONITE bag !

I bought a TSA lock in 2009 in New York. But now I have forgotten the combination numbers and thus unable to use it. Please help.

adee 4 weeks ago

shanta, if it's a 3-digit lock, you can simply try all combinations from 000 to 999. You'll get quicker as you try more numbers.

Hola Shanta, si eres la persona que creo???? Si es así recibe afectuosos saludos
